Study Spaces

Group Study Rooms

To use a group study room, inquire at the Circulation Desk to check out a key.

Group Study Rooms are on the 1st and 2nd floors.

Policy

  • Circulation assigns study rooms on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • All study rooms are for use by groups of two or more students for study purposes.
  • A two-hour time limit will be enforced as demand requires.
  • A current validated University of Louisiana at Lafayette ID is required to use a study room.
  • There are fines for not returning the study room key to the Circulation Desk when finished.
  • Do not leave personal items unattended in study rooms.
  • Dupré Library is not responsible for items left behind or stolen.

Fines

  • $5.00 for leaving the Library building with a study room key
  • $20.00 for replacement of a lost study room key

Individual Study Carrels

There are a total of 69 individual study carrels for use as follows:

  • 35 study carrels are available for any patron to use with a 2-hour checkout
  • 34 study carrels reserved for Graduate Students with a semester-long checkout.

For 2-hour Study Carrels

To use a study carrel, inquire at the Circulation Desk to check out a key.

  • 2-hour study carrels cannot be reserved ahead of time.
  • Study carrels assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • All study carrels are for single occupant use only.
  • A two-hour time limit will be enforced as demand requires.
  • A current validated University of Louisiana at Lafayette ID is required to use a study carrel.
  • There are fines for not returning the study carrel key to the Circulation Desk when finished.
  • Do not leave personal items unattended in study carrels.
  • Dupré Library is not responsible for items left behind or stolen.

Fines

  • $5.00 for leaving the building with a study carrel key
  • $20.00 for replacement of a lost study carrel key

For Graduate Student Carrels

To request the use of a study carrel for the semester, fill out the Study Carrel Request Form (PDF) and email it to circulation@louisiana.edu.

If you only want a carrel for the day, request a key at the Circulation Desk.

  • Graduate students must renew their study carrel on a semester-to-semester basis.
  • Study carrels assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • All study carrels are for single occupant use only.
  • Be courteous. Keep noise to a minimum. Always use headphones when listening to laptops, tablets, phones, etc.
  • A current validated University of Louisiana at Lafayette ID is required to use a study carrel.
  • Carrels are not completely enclosed and are, therefore, not secure.
  • Dupré Library is not responsible for items left in carrels, which includes library materials.
  • Library materials left in a carrel must be checked out to the carrel's occupant.
  • Library personnel will check carrels periodically and library materials left in carrels that are not checked out will be returned to the shelf.
  • Before the carrel reservation period ends, the carrel must either be renewed or the carrel key must be returned to the library or the Physical Plant in Parker Hall. Failure to do either will result in a forfeit of the key deposit.
  • If the carrel is no longer needed or if leaving the University, return the carrel key to the library or the Physical Plant in Parker Hall for a key deposit refund. Failure to return the key will result in a forfeit of the key deposit.
  • A failure to abide by these policies can result in confiscation of the study carrel, forfeiture of the key deposit, and fines for damage to library property.

Renewal

  • Graduate students who have study carrels will be contacted to renew via email during their renewal period.
  • To renew your study carrel, complete a Study Carrel Renewal Form.
  • If you do not renew your carrel before the renewal period expires, your key deposit will be forfeited and the carrel will be added to the pool of general use carrels.
  • If you no longer need your carrel or are leaving the University, return the carrel key to the library or the Physical Plant in Parker Hall for a key deposit refund.
  • Exceptions to this policy are made by the Dean of University Libraries only.

Fines

  • $20.00 for replacement of a lost study carrel key
  • Study carrel key deposit is forfeited if:
    • carrel is not renewed before the renewal period expires
    • carrel key is not returned when carrel is no longer needed

Policy & Procedure for Previously Assigned Carrels Only

When a study carrel is checked out, the occupant must review the following list of rules. A failure to abide by these rules can result in confiscation of the study carrel, forfeiture of the key deposit, and fines for damage to library property.

  • Study carrel occupants will be contacted to renew via email during their renewal period.
  • If a renewal form is not submitted before the renewal period expires, the key deposit is forfeited, and the carrel will be added to the pool of general use carrels.
  • If the carrel is no longer needed or if leaving the University, the carrel key must be returned to the library or the Physical Plant in Parker Hall for a key deposit refund. If the key is not returned, the key deposit is forfeited.
  • Exceptions to this policy are made by the Dean of University Libraries only.

Carrel Renewal for Previously Assigned Carrels

  • To renew a faculty or graduate study carrel, complete a Study Carrel Renewal Form.
  • If you no longer need your carrel or are leaving the University, return the carrel key to the library or the Physical Plant in Parker Hall for a key deposit refund.
  • Submit a renewal form or return the carrel key by the end of your renewal period, or your key deposit will be forfeited, and your carrel will be added to the pool of general use carrels.
