What is a Federal Depository Library?

The Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) of the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) was established by the authority of Title 44, Chapter 19 of the U.S. Code (PDF). Libraries designated as depositories agree to provide free access to public government information and publications distributed by the FDLP and government agencies in accordance with Chapter 19 of Title 44. Edith Garland Dupré Library is a Federal Depository of the 3rd U.S. Congressional District.

Subjects and public information in government publications and depository libraries:

  • Wide range of subjects and topics: Art and architecture, biological sciences, business and economics, consumer protection and safety, criminal justice, culture and folklife, defense, education, energy, engineering, environment, foreign and international relations, health and medicine, history, labor and employment, laws and regulations, natural resources, nutrition, performing arts, and science and technology
  • Current and historical information
  • Primary and secondary research and information sources
  • Public interest and educational information and resources

Research: There are many ways to find and access government publications and information!

About our Depository

Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) logo

  • In 1938, Edith Garland Dupré Library received a congressional designation as Federal Depository Library.
  • As a selective depository, Dupré Library currently receives over 40 percent of FDLP digital publications and a very select number of print legal publications available to depository libraries.
  • Free access to public government information is provided to the general public, in accordance with Title 44, Chapter 19 of the U.S. Code (PDF).
  • Borrowing or check-out of most paper/print documents is allowed.
  • General and specialized reference, research, and instructional services are provided. Individual or group consultations and instructional sessions may be scheduled by contacting fdlgovinfo@louisiana.edu.
