In His Own Words: A Memorial to the Life & Works of Dr. Ernest J. Gaines

Come out to celebrate the life of the late author with a memorial service at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. A recorded reading by the late author, photos, and reflections on his life and impact will be shared. There will be a scrapbook for the family where you can sign a page and share your memories of Dr. Gaines.

The memorial service will take place at the Ernest J. Gaines Center, 3rd floor, on Nov. 11 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is open to the public.

Article on Special Collections's Journalism Event

In advance of Special Collections's upcoming journalism event, Ken Stickney of The Advocate has written an article highlighting the event, Alton Broussard, and his impact on Lafayette journalism. The article is titled "Independent Lafayette paper from the '60s focus of UL event".

The Special Collections journalism event will be held Thursday, Nov. 21 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Jefferson Caffery Reading Room on the 3rd floor.
