It's Freedom of Information Day and we are celebrating it with an event where you can learn much about US government documents.
With it we are having a competition. Stop by at anytime during the event to learn how to access government documents and a chance to win a prize.

"Indulgences: a book of common images", by Allan L. Jones, is for view outside of the Jefferson Caffery Reading Room on the 3rd floor. Jones is a former UL Lafayette Professor and 2020 SPARK Lifetime Achievement Award winner. Come by and check out this wonderful book.
On March 6, 2020, a ceremony at the Alumni Center was held to honor Sandra Thompson Herman and the donation of her personal papers to the library. Ms. Herman was the former director of the Atchafalaya Basin Progam and the creator of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, for which she acted as the first secretary. The ceremony included speeches from President E. Joseph Savoie, Head of Special Collections Zachary Stein, Director of the Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center Stephen Barnes, and several of Ms. Herman's friends and former colleagues. Ms.
The library is accepting scholarly papers for the 2020 Annual Caffery Competition. The Caffery Competition honors the most outstanding original student scholarly paper written using special collections materials from Dupré Library. Currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students are welcome to submit. The student with the best paper is awarded $500.
Papers are to be submitted electronically with all contact information, including ULID, to librarydeanoffice@louisiana.edu no later than Feb. 28, 2020.
Take a visit to the library to view the Department of Nursing's display of NURS403 class' EBP posters on various studies made within the course.
Drop off your Mardi Gras beads at to help the UL Lafayette Office of Sustainability collect beads to support the LARC organization's Mardi Gras Beads-N-More celebration. The collection ends on March 10.

All public service departments, including the Circulation/Reserve Desk, Interlibrary Loan, Reference Desk/Chat, Reference Online Center (ROC) Lab, and STEP Labs, close 15 minutes before the building closes.
Zachary Stein, Head of Special Collections, sat down with Judith Meriwether of KRVS to discuss the work and mission of the Special Collections at the library. They spoke about the importance of archives preservation, the history of the department, the unique materials available to library users, and the mission and goals of Special Collections.
