Today we are highlighting Collection 500, Walter C. Holmes Collection.
Dr. Holmes was born in New Orleans and grew up in LaPlace, La. He received a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech University and his doctorate from Mississippi State University, both in botany. After receiving his bachelor’s, he served in the United States Naval Air Force as a pilot.
We now have a Library of Things collection that includes non-traditional library items such as stuffed animals, school supplies, recreational activities, technology, and kitchen supplies.

UL Lafayette undergraduate students can enter the 2023 Constitution Day Essay Contest and win a $200 prize from the Galvez Chapter of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

This month the Browsing Shelf next to the Reference Desk is a Little Free Library with free books. There are lots of titles and genres to choose from.
Little Free Libraries are located on campus in Griffin Hall outside of Room 131 and in Agnes Edwards next to the Louisiana Educate Program Center.
Take, return, or give a book at any Little Free Library location.

Today we are celebrating with our friends over in the Center for Louisiana Studies.
The Center for Louisiana Studies recently relocated part of their operations from the library to the newly renovated Roy House. On Thursday, Aug. 17, the Roy House and Center for Louisiana Studies celebrated their opening day. Their new regular hours will be 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday – Thursday.
