Joseph Sampité served as mayor of Natchitoches for five terms. His accomplishments included expanding Natchitoches’s recreation program, spearheaded improvements in infrastructures, and was instrumental and bringing the production of the film “Steel Magnolias” to the city. He was inducted into the Louisiana Political Hall of Fame in Winnfield in 2002.
