Fun Fact Friday with Special Collections

Today we are celebrating Veterans Day.

Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day, is observed every year on Nov. 11. It is a day to honor military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. In other countries, today is known as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, a day marking the anniversary of the end of World War I.

The poppy was chosen as the sign of remembrance because it appeared across the battlefields in northern France and Belgium. In 1954 the day was renamed Veterans Day. Today, we would like to take a moment to thank all of the veterans out there for their service.
