Exhibit: Presidential Campaign Memorabilia

Just in time for the upcoming election, the new exhibit in the Grand Hallway features decades of historical presidential campaign memorabilia from the personal collection of Mr. Thomas Angers.

The "Selecting Our President" exhibit is broadly divided into four categories: the campaign for the nomination, the nominating convention, the general election campaign, and the inauguration of the President. The extensive variety of memorabilia includes pins and buttons, t-shirts and ties, official convention badges, official national convention tickets, an official roll of delegates to the Republican National Convention, and an official publication of the proceedings of a GOP convention. The inauguration section includes invitations to inaugurations and inaugural balls, official inaugural programs, presidential and vice-presidential Christmas cards sent to delegates, alternates, and electors, and even official napkins and glasses from Air Force One.

Other highlights include campaign posters, a campaign record for Barry Goldwater, a musical march for President McKinley, books, periodicals, and original printings of famous drawings by political artist Thomas Nast, who is credited with helping popularize the elephant and donkey as symbols of the Republican Party and Democratic Party, respectively.

The exhibit will remain on display through mid-November.
