On the Friday after Thanksgiving, Louisiana celebrates Acadian Day. Former Gov. Edwin Edwards established the holiday in 1987 to commemorate the Acadian people's arrival in Louisiana, and each governor since then has continued the tradition of observing the holiday. Acadiana is a region full of rich history and culture, thanks to the settlers who made South Louisiana their home.
Today marks the 50th anniversary of the death of Jefferson Caffery. Ambassador Caffery was born Dec. 1, 1886, in Lafayette. He was a member of the first graduating class of Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. After graduating from Tulane in 1906, he was admitted as a member of the Bar in 1908. While studying for the Bar, he was head football coach of SLI.
The Digital Archives encompasses digitized and born-digital materials that are part of Special Collections. Digital collections and materials are housed internally on a library shared drive, CDs/DVDs, and other electronic media. Visitors may request digital materials, which will be brought out to them in the form of access copies and viewed on one of our two patron computer stations in the Jefferson Caffery Reading Room.
Special Collections has released a digital exhibit of the Broussard and Trahan Families.
The Broussard and Trahan families are two prominent Acadian families with ancestral roots in Louisiana, Canada, and France. Photographs and genealogical information donated by Michael E. “Mitch” Conover were formatted from HTML documents to PDF for this exhibit.

Special Collections has posted a digital exhibit of the 1998 College of Education Academic Showcase.
Spearheaded by Dr. Edmond Dugas, Professor Emeritus of Kinesiology, this project chronicles the programs put on by the College of Education to commemorate the University’s 100-year history, leading up to the University’s Centennial Celebration. Two sections, in particular, are paid close attention: a collection of 41 videos, and a Book of Letters.
Special Collections has posted a new digital exhibit entitled Dear Mr. Fletcher: Letters from the Second World War.
Scott Jordan, Digitization Archivist, and Janelle Zetty, Head of Cataloging, have collaborated to create a new digital exhibit featuring photographs from the Ory Miguez Collection.
In the 1940s, Franklin Boggs was commissioned by the Aloe Company, a medical supply company in New Orleans, LA, to capture the evolution of the state's medical history. The 112-foot by 57-inch mural located in the Reference & Research Services area depicts memorable events in Louisiana’s medical history.
A digital exhibit was created to show the history of the mural and its journey from the Aloe Company to Tulane University and now Dupré Library. The exhibit can be viewed under Digital Exhibits.
