Author, lecturer, creative writer, and Ernest J. Gaines Scholar, Dr. Herman Beavers (Africana Studies and English) is the honored speaker for the 5th annual Ernest J. Gaines Lecture. The lecture will be held on Oct. 12 in the Gaines Center Hallway, which is located on the 3rd floor at 11 a.m.
Dupré Library and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Student Government Association are partnering to collect non-perishable food items for a Hurricane Harvey relief drive. Desired items include canned vegetables and fruit, canned meats, canned soups and stews, canned beans, cereal, Ensure and Pediasure, pasta, peanut butter, protein and granola bars, rice, and shelf-stable milk.
Tutors from the UL Lafayette Department of Biology's Mentoring Matters program will be in the 1st floor Reference Area this semester to assist students.

Tutors from the UL Lafayette Writing Lab will be in the library this semester.

Dupré Library and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's Department of Physics will host a solar eclipse viewing party on Monday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Faculty will speak briefly about the event, and a telescope and viewing glasses will be provided.
The event will take place in the Quad and is open to students, staff, and faculty only.
