Author, lecturer, creative writer, and Ernest J. Gaines Scholar, Dr. Herman Beavers (Africana Studies and English) is the honored speaker for the 5th annual Ernest J. Gaines Lecture. The lecture will be held on Oct. 12 in the Gaines Center Hallway, which is located on the 3rd floor at 11 a.m.

Dr. Beavers is a well respected scholar and writer, whose body of work includes Wrestling Angels into Song, which looks at the work of Dr. Ernest J. Gaines and James Allen McPherson, and poems and short stories in MELUS, The Langston Hughes Colloquy, Versadelphia, Cleaver Magazine, and The American Arts Quarterly. In addition to an impressive number of titles, throughout his career, Dr. Beavers has also been on a number of esteemed panels, including the NEH funded "Ernest J. Gaines and the Southern Experience" summer institute.

We are so excited to have such a talented scholar visit with us, and we invite all of you to join us for this year's Ernest J. Gaines Lecture Series.
