Louisiana Collection
The Louisiana Collection is a division of Special Collections and contains various published and unpublished materials relating to the University and Louisiana. Subjects include agriculture, arts and literature, business and industry, education, history, and politics and government.
Materials include:
- Genealogy Collection (PDF) – extensive collection for researching family histories in Louisiana; a Guide and Selected Bibliography (PDF) is available for reference
- Graduate and Undergraduate Theses (PDF)
- Louisiana Documents – arranged by a state document number according to the subject
- Louisiana Map Collection – contains local, state, and federal (or GPO federal depository) maps, both current and historical.

- Periodicals
- Phonograph Records (PDF)
- Acadiana Files (Vertical Files) – consist of clippings from various Louisiana newspapers that have been organized topically for quicker access
- Books, CDs, DVDs ... and more
Most Louisiana Collection materials are housed in closed stacks and are not available for public browsing, but can be requested at the Special Collections reference desk.
Published and cataloged materials can be found through the Dupré Library Catalog, while uncataloged resources, like Louisiana Documents (PDF), Louisiana Maps (PDF), and Acadiana Files, are indexed online and can be viewed in the Reading Room.
Jefferson Caffery Reading Room
Visitors to Special Collections shall enter the Jefferson Caffery Reading Room, where students, faculty, staff, and the public may browse genealogy books and get answers to reference questions, family histories, and Louisiana culture. All materials located in Special Collections must remain inside the Reading Room and cannot be taken outside of the department.
The Reading Room also contains a microfilm reader/printer/scanner, overhead scanner, TV with VCR, audio cassette tape deck, CD player, turntable, a small lounging area, rotating exhibits, portraits, and computers for searching the catalog and viewing Acadiana Files.
