Dupré Library mourns the death of Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco. Being the first and only woman to be elected governor of Louisiana, she was a beacon of light for all Louisiana citizens, and worked hard to overcome the state’s obstacles. Her legacy has manifested into the new Kathleen Babineaux Blanco Public Policy Center, a research center established at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2018 to hold her gubernatorial papers and provide a space for researchers and policy makers. Dupré Library is proud to be the home of the Center and her papers. Governor Blanco was an inspiration to Louisiana citizens, and her legacy will live on through the great work that will come out of it.
