This week we will be celebrating Mardi Gras. Here in Special Collections, we have various Mardi Gras items including books, audio-visuals, posters, photographs, and artifacts.

The thought of Mardi Gras can be as different as the people who celebrate the holiday. For some Mardi Gras is dressing up in colorful tattered and fringed costumes with capuchins chasing a chicken in a country meadow. For others it is standing in the middle of a street watching the Mardi Gras Indians stroll on by. Whether it’s the King Cake, beads, or street parades, Mardi Gras and its rich history is here to stay.

Below are some items we have in our Mardi Gras Collection, Collection 80, and the Louisiana Collection.
