Fun Fact Friday with Special Collections

Today we are celebrating Womens History Month.

Women’s History Month began in 1981 with the declaration of Women’s History Week before changing to Women’s History Month in 1987. It is a time to celebrate the contributions women have made to the United States and recognize specific achievements women have made over the course of American history.

Here in Special Collections, are several collections that celebrate the contributions of women to the university. Collections such as:

• Collection 26 - Lucile Meredith Mouton Griffin Collection, which includes scrapbooks of her time as a student at SLI.
• Collection 43 - Edith Garland Dupré Papers, which reflects her life and times at SLI. (Photo attached)
• Collection 105 - Vesta Bourgeois Papers, which include artifacts of her time as a physical education teacher at SLI/USL.
• Collection 109 - Pearl Mary Segura Papers, which contains her personal files compiled during her time as the Louisiana Renamed Louisiana Room to Louisiana Collection Librarian.

These collections and many more about contributions by fantastic women of our university are found in Special Collections.
