Come out to celebrate the life of the late author with a memorial service at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. A recorded reading by the late author, photos, and reflections on his life and impact will be shared. There will be a scrapbook for the family where you can sign a page and share your memories of Dr. Gaines.

The memorial service will take place at the Ernest J. Gaines Center, 3rd floor, on Nov. 11 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is open to the public.

Funeral services for Dr. Gaines will be held on Staurday, Nov. 16. The services will be at Hall Davis and Sons Funeral Services, located at 9348 Scenic Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA 70807, and will start at 1 p.m. Visitation will be on Friday, Nov. 15 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 16 from noon to 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Baptist Church, located on the grounds of Gaines' ancestral home in rural Pointe Coupee Parish. The public is invited to attend.
