Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence winner and author of the dynamic and acclaimed book, A Lucky Man, Jamel Brinkley will be at the Ernest J. Gaines Center for a book talk on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Los Angels Review of Books states that Brinkley" offers visions of manhood and masculinity that demonstrate candor without false intensity, desire without ownership. His male characters have fictional experiences that, in the hands of the right reader, can become equipment for living." This book, which takes place mostly in Brooklyn has the potential to engage readers in deep conversations about race, class, gender, love, loss, and purpose.

The Ernest J. Gaines Center hopes you will join us for this program and celebrating this year's award recipient and rising author, Jamel Brinkley.
