Acclaimed author T. Geronimo Johnson will be at the Ernest J. Gaines Center for a book talk on Tuesday, Jan, 19 at 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Johnson is the recipient of the 2015 Ernest Gaines Award for Literary Excellence for his novel Welcome to Braggsville, which has been described as a “stylish satire” that is “radical, hilarious, tragic, and all too relevant.” It was longlisted for the 2015 National Book Award and was named one of the best books of 2015 by the Washington Post, TIME Magazine, Chicago Tribune, NPR, and Huffington Post, among others. Johnson’s first novel, Hold It ‘Til It Hurts, was published in 2012 and was a finalist for the 2013 PEN/Faulkner Award for fiction.

Gaines Center is an international center for scholarship, programming, and community outreach on Ernest J. Gaines and his work. The center honors the work of UL Lafayette’s Writer-In-Residence Emeritus and provides a space for scholars and students to work with the Gaines papers and manuscripts.
