On Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., a panel discussion on the Past, Present & Future of Archives will be held in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the University Archives and Acadiana Manuscripts Collection. The discussion will also address the changing nature of scholarly research. Panelists include Tara Laver, Curator of Manuscripts at Special Collections, Louisiana State University; Lee Miller, Head of the Louisiana Research Collection, Tulane University; and Dr. Mike Wade, Professor of History at Appalachian State University (and University of Soutwestern Louisiana Ph.D. graduate).

Dr. Henry C. Dethloff will also attend. Dethloff was in the USL History Department from 1963 to 1969, and was the first director of the Southwestern Archives and Manuscripts Collection (SAMC) from 1965 to 1969. He will talk briefly about the establishment of the SAMC in 1965.

The event will be held in the Jefferson Caffery Reading Room on the 3rd floor. A reception will follow the panel discussion.

The event is free and open to the public. Visitors to campus may park in the new Girard Park Circle parking garage.
