Acclaimed Southern author and scholar, Dr. Trudier Harris will deliver the Annual Ernest J. Gaines Lecture on Oct. 24, 2019, 11 a.m., at the Ernest J. Gaines Center, located on the 3rd floor.

The Ernest J. Gaines Center is thrilled to bring Dr. Harris in as the 7th speaker for its annual Gaines Center Lecture series.

Author of Exorcising Blackness: Historical and Literary Lynching and Burning Rituals and From Mammies to Militants: Domestics in Black American Literature, Dr. Harris is a folklorist. She focuses on the complexities of Southern African American identity and experiences. Her work earned her the J. Carlyle Sitterson Distinguished Professor award at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the 2015 distinguished research professor at the University of Alabama.
