Collection 256

Crowley (Louisiana) Woman’s Club. Records, 1900-2000, n.d.

10 feet, 4 inches

The Crowley Woman’s Club was organized 19 January 1900 by eighteen women at the home of Mrs. J. B. Foley. It is the oldest women’s club in Crowley. Their stated objective was “the development of members in mental culture and the dissemination of helpful thoughts and ideas.” In 1918, the club operated as a local Red Cross Chapter in an effort to support the nation during World War I. The club joined the Louisiana Federation of Women’s Clubs [LFWC] in 1901 making it an automatic member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs [GFWC].

The collection contains records of the Crowley Woman’s Club, including by-laws, minutes, publicity, and financial records. There are also materials from Woman’s Clubs at the state and national level.

Helen Aaron, Margie McCuller and Florence S. Jones, members of the Crowley Woman’s Club, donated this collection.
