The Cajun and Creole Music Collection (CCMC) of the University Libraries Special Collections is celebrating its 20th anniversary with the exhibit, “Sustaining our Sounds: Celebrating 20 Years…Moving Forward in Rhythm.” From building the foundation to moving forward together, the exhibit features collection and service highlights since 2003. It also presents a vision and goals for expansion, public access and discoverability, and physical and digital preservation infrastructures.

The focus of the exhibit is the CCMC’s history, purpose, impact, and collaborations in supporting and contributing to the UL Lafayette mission, values, and goals. Showcased in the exhibit are a select number and variety of sound recordings and unique artifacts.

In association with other UL Lafayette 125th anniversary events, the exhibit will be on display at Edith Garland Dupré Library in the 1st floor central stairwell exhibit area through March 14, 2024. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The Cajun and Creole Music Collection consists of over 10,000 commercially produced audio and video sound recordings, plus additional music-related archival materials. The collection represents the diverse styles, genres, and influences of Louisiana Cajun and Creole musical cultures. The Cajun and Creole Music Collection, located on the 3rd floor of Dupré Library, is open to the public for listening, viewing and research. The Library encourages the use of the collection and offers tours and instructional sessions.
