Lafayette Parish, located in the Acadiana region of south Louisiana, was formed in 1823 and named after 18th century American Revolutionary war hero and supporter Marquis de Lafayette. The parish seat is Lafayette.

This collection contains 16 reels of microfilmed civil records from Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, from 1800 to 1865.

The film was acquired by the Center for Louisiana Studies as an extension of the Colonial Louisiana Records Collection. That collection was transferred to the University Archives and Acadiana Manuscripts Collection in 2013. The films may overlap in content or dates.
