Policies and Procedures
Additional policies and procedures exist that might be applicable.
The purpose of the Circulation Department is to provide friendly and courteous service to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette community and the general public in lending library materials. Additionally, staff members are responsible for answering directional questions, maintaining photocopiers, and group study rooms.
  • We serve everyone involved with the University in addition to the general public. The UL Lafayette faculty, staff and students are required to have a current and validated University ID to borrow materials.
  • Among those patrons who are not associated with the University, only those who wish to purchase a Friends of the Library card (at the annual cost of $35.00) may borrow library materials.
  • Alumni who possess an "alumni card" are also extended borrowing privileges.
  • Finally, the Louisiana Academic Library Information Consortium (LALINC), which consists of faculty, staff and graduate students from all state institutions in good standing are issued a LALINC card allowing them cooperative borrowing privileges. See attachment for library circulation regulations applying to LALINC users.
Loan Periods
Materials lent through the Circulation Department include: books, bound periodicals, compact disks (CDs), video cassettes, and DVDs. Books are loaned to faculty members for an academic year, to graduate students for one semester, and undergraduate students are allowed a twenty-one (21) day checkout period. Bound periodicals are loaned only to faculty, staff and graduate students. Faculty and staff have a seven-day loan period, while graduate students are limited to overnight checkout. Videos and compact disks are charged out for a 3-week period. Books and CD-ROMs have a loan period of twenty-one days. Renewals of library materials are allowed as long as there has been no request for that material by any other patron.

Continuing graduate students who want to borrow materials from Dupré Library and/or use the Interlibrary Loan Service during intersessions and over the summer may download an Extended Privileges form. The form requires the signature of a faculty member in the student’s department. A form submitted at the end of the spring semester grants extended privileges from that time through the beginning of the fall semester. A form submitted at the end of the fall semester covers winter intersession.

Circulation Limits
The total number of library materials (books, CDs, government documents, etc.) patrons are allowed to have checked out at one time varies depending on the patron's classification with the University. The limits are as follows:
  • Undergraduates and staff: 30 items
  • Graduate students: 75 items
  • Faculty: 100 items
Friends of the Library members are allowed 30 items checked out at one time. LALINC card holders are allowed to have 10 items checked out at one time.
