Jerome “Jerry” Malinowski is professor emeritus of industrial design and the program coordinator from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. This collection consists of industrials design work created by Professor Malinowski and his students. Two of Jerome Malinowski’s students digitized the files and donated the entire collection to Edith Garland Dupré Library.

This is an open-end collection containing scrapbooks, notebooks, scripts, publicity, pictures, programs and history of The Lafayette Town House-Order of the Troubadours. Included are programs and mementos of the Krewe of Gabriel, Brigands de Lafitte, and Krewe of Attakapas. Additionally, the collection is an LGBTQ resource and contains artifacts and materials of LGBTQ+ Mardi Gras organizations such as the Krewes of Armeinius, Petronius, and Apollo.

Jim Frank Martin, Jr. was an English teacher and photojournalist from Geneva County, Alabama. He currently lives in Scott, Louisiana where he pursues ancestry research, concentrating on persons whose ancestors fought, died, and/or survived the War of Northern Aggression. This collection contains Mr. Martin’s research on ancestry, the American Revolution, and the Civil War. It also includes letters and narratives between him and his family. Jim F. Martin, Jr. donated this collection.

Born April 7, 1918, Lucien Martin was the seventh child of Sidney J. Martin Sr. and Anais Mouton. Together with his wife Melba, Martin collected information and photographs to publish a work on the genealogy of his family. The 11 photographs included in this collection were likely copied as part of Martin’s research for the book’s publication. The photographs that have been identified depict life in late 19th/early 20th century Lafayette, LA.

Dr. Michael S. Martin is a Professor of History at University of Louisiana at Lafayette. His research and teaching interests focus on Louisiana history, public history, and the history of the U.S. South. He also served as the director for the Center for Louisiana Studies. This collections contains mostly research materials for Dr. Martin's book Russell Long: A Life in Politics (2014). Donated by Dr. Michael Martin.

Robert Martin was an attorney, politician and businessman. As State Senator in 1898 he authored legislation establishing Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. This collection contains notary volumes for Simeon Valery Martin, Louis E. Labaire, Robert Martin, and James J. Martin, all from St. Martin Parish. There are also copy books of business letters written by Robert Martin as both a lawyer and as a businessman.

Andrew Arthur McBride was a teacher, principal and administrator in the Lafayette Parish School system for nearly half a century. He was the Parish Superintendent of Education from 1946 to 1948. After retiring from education, he became associated with James Alpha in publishing The Lafayette Progress, and later worked for the Daily Advertiser. This collection consists of teacher’s notes, certificates, correspondence, and scrapbooks of mainly news clippings.

Mainly business papers of McGowan, a dentist, druggist, banker, merchant and civic leader in Jeanerette, La. Included are some articles on Jeanerette written by Florence Bussey McGowan; diaries kept by her relatives in Mississippi in 1876; a claim for property destroyed or confiscated by Union soldiers in Jackson, Miss., in 1863; and a record book for the Sans Souci Club of Jeanerette, 1885-1887.

Mary Adelaide McIntrye-Blake was a well-known artist whose work is found in many Catholic churches in south Louisiana. This collection contains mainly photocopies of material Ms. McIntrye had in her studio in Carencro, LA, including documentation and works in churches and other locations. There are also a few original pieces of art.

McMillan, Margaret (1920-2016). Papers, 1909-2016, n.d.

Margaret McMillan was an advisor at the Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) from 1941 to 1959, and served as the Coordinator of the USL Women's Physical Education Department from 1972 to 1976. She then founded McMillan Offshore Survival Technology (MOST), served as a consultant in offshore safety and survival for branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, the British Royal Navy, and the Russian government. This collection contains photographs, correspondence, news clippings, miscellaneous materials, and books. The majority of the news clippings have been copied due to water damage. The books relate to health/fitness, travel, and offshore safety. There are also a number of McMillan’s personal yearbooks from her undergraduate and graduate years.

William Buchanan MacMillan was a resident of Abbeville, Louisiana since July 1928. He served as a sales promotion and public relations manager of the Louisiana State Rice Company, and was well known and highly praised for his work in flower hybridization. He also was a distinguished person in the fields of education and business. This collection contains Mr. MacMillan’s correspondence and papers, mainly concerned with his work in horticulture. Sarah Daniel of Abbeville, Louisiana donated this collection in 1978.

Dr. Meriwether taught in the Physics Department at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette (formerly the University of Southwestern Louisiana) from 1967 to 2012. His research interests and fields of specialization include nuclear science, applied physics, environmental radioactivity, radioactive dating, experimental equipment design, art and science, and microscopy. The collection includes materials pertaining to Dr. Meriwether’s study of nuclear physics, environmental science, and the Microspace: Science and Hidden Art collaborative exhibit. Also included are copies of Dr. Meriwether’s research, lantern slides and X-rays, class tour photographs, and correspondence regarding speaking bureaus and race relations. The bulk of the materials in this collection were created and gathered for the Culture of Man honors course, taught by Dr. Meriwether, between 1980 and 2009. This collection was donated in 2012.

Mertzweiller was born in 1920 in New Orleans, La. He received an engineering degree from Loyola University in 1941 and a master's degree from the University of Detroit in 1943. He was interested in Louisiana Iris, and conducted his own hybridizing experiments. He was also active in a number of organizations devoted to the Louisiana Iris. This collection contains materials related to this topic.

Michot, Louis J. (1922-2012). Collection, 1939-2012, n.d.

Michot was a businessman, philanthropist, and politician. His business enterprises included the Burger Chef restaurant chain, transportation, oil drilling, insurance, banking and international trade. He served as a Democrat in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1960 to 1964 and was elected to the Louisiana State Board of Education from 1968-1972. He was then elected State Superintendent of Education and served from 1972-1976. During his term, he championed vocational-technical education and brought educational television to the state. This collection consists of Michot’s working and personal, photographs, and several oversize certificates.

Dr. Thomas “Tommy” C. Michot is a retired research scientist at the Institute for Coastal Ecology and Engineering at UL Lafayette. His research focused on ecology and management of coastal marshes, mangroves, and seagrass beds in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, and how wintering waterfowl and other birds use those habitats. This collection of papers includes files on Dr. Michot’s research on Red Head Ducks, field notes, data sheets, photographs and slides, computer punch cards, and audio cassettes. Thomas Michot donated this collection.

Captain Robert Mouton was a United States Marine Corps officer and served as mayor of Lafayette from 1919-1927 and 1931-1935. He was also engaged in horticultural pursuits. This collection consists of a 1940 film of Captain Mouton’s Les Jardins de Mouton in Lafayette, Louisiana.

Celeste Mouton was the younger sister of Governor Alexandre Mouton. Her father, Jean Mouton père, donated land to her that was ultimately put under shared ownership with her husband, Joseph D. Guidry. Citing Sections 2390 & 2391 of the 1870 Louisiana Civil Code, she sued in the St. Landry Parish District Court to recover her paraphernal property for her to be the sole owner. This collection contains a scanned copy and a transcription of the case file. Leslie Elizabeth Barras, great-granddaughter of Celeste Mouton, scanned, transcribed, and donated the collection.
