On Thursday, Oct. 29, the Ernest J. Gaines Center will host its 8th Annual Gaines Lecture Series at 5 p.m.. Because the Center is observing safety guidelines for COVID-19, the program will be a virtual event.

This years guest speaker will be Dr. Richard Yarborough. He will be leading a discussion entitled "Waiting to Go Through the Door": Historical Change and Individual Action in the work of Ernest J. Gaines. Dr. Yarborough of the University of California Los Angeles focuses his classes and scholarship on African American literature before World War I, the representation of slavery in American culture, black writers and radical politics in the U.S., and the construction of race in American film and popular music.

He is the recipient of numerous awards, including UCLA Academic Senate's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award and UCLA Distinguished Teaching Award.

We are excited to have Dr. Yarborough with us.
