Dr. Doris Broussard Bentley was born in Loreauville, LA on 8 July 1919. She received her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees from Louisiana State University and served as the first administrative secretary at McNeese University. After teaching high school for a little while, Dr. Bentley joined the faculty of the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1959. She served as the Department Head of Office Administration from 1972 until her retirement in 1986.

Dr. Bentley’s dissertation was on Edith Garland Dupré, English professor and head of the library during the SLII years. This collection contains material related to the preparation of the dissertation. Included are interview notes, research notes, bibliography notes, biography notes, and correspondence related to the project. Excerpts can also be found in the Coll. 43 - Edith Garland Dupré Papers.

Dr. Doris Broussard Bentley donated this collection in 1990.
