Collection 69

American Association of University Women (AAUW), Lafayette, LA Branch. Records, 1924–2010, n.d.

8 feet, 3 inches; 8 volumes

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) started in 1881. The purpose of the Association is to unite the alumnae of different institutions of higher education to advance the economic, political, and educational opportunities for women. The AAUW began with small groups of interested women. Gradually the number of small branches grew until it seemed wise to organize them into state and regional divisions. The Lafayette, Louisiana Branch was started in the mid-1920s.

This collection is divided into three groups: national, state, and local. It contains organizational records, correspondence, bylaws, conference and convention materials, minutes, reports, and other miscellaneous materials.

This collection was initially donated by Laura C. Edwards. Subsequent donations have come from other AAUW members.

For other collections with AAUW material, view Collection 187, Mary E. Dichmann Papers and Collection 198, Ora-Westley S. Cady Papers.
