St. Julien, Joseph Gilbert (1872-1954). Collection
Joseph Gilbert St. Julien was born on February 22, 1872 in Broussard, Louisiana, the son of Gustave and Helene Roy St. Julien. He attended private schools, St. Charles College and Tulane University. In 1905, he married Idolie Girouard. They had three children.
He managed a general merchandise store and taught school in his early adult years. He served in the State Legislature as Representative of Lafayette Parish, and was elected Parish Clerk of Court. Mr. St. Julien was mayor of Lafayette from 1927-1931. He was also president of the local bar association, member of the state constitutional convention, and Appeal Attorney for the Lafayette Parish Draft Board during World War II. He was vice-president of the Parish School Board and was an organizer, charter member, and president of the local Rotary Club.
This collection consists of a journal volume containing his handwritten notes dated 1931.
