John Henry Kirby and Amanda Kirby Fortenberry were from Houston, Texas. They were two of the children born to John Thomas and Sarah Payne Kirby. John Kirby was the founder of Kirby Petroleum Company. He owned several saw mills and lumber companies in Texas.

This collection consists of Christian Science journals and magazines, correspondence, bank statements belonging to Amanda Fortenberry, biographical information about Kirby, and a large number of unidentified (possibly family) photographs. There are also other miscellaneous materials.
