Louisiana Recovery Authority. Collection, 2005–2008, n.d.

7 feet; 11 inches

Hurricanes Katrina and Rita devastated South Louisiana, claiming 1,464 lives and destroying more than 200,000 homes and 18,000 businesses. In the aftermath of these storms, Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco created the Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA), planning and coordinating body that led one of the most extensive rebuilding efforts in the world. Appointed by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate, the organization’s 33-member body with secured funding for the recovery, coordinated across jurisdictions, supported community recovery and resurgence, ensured integrity and effectiveness, and planned for the rebuilding of Louisiana. The Louisiana Recovery Authority was the result of an executive order in 2005 and in was made a statute through Act 5 of the 2006 1st Extraordinary Session of the Louisiana Legislature.

This collection contains all the working files from the Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA). Included are correspondence, publicity, committee material, reports, task force material, and other documents.

John T. Landry donated the collection.
