Gerwick, Fred W.(1902–1979). Photographs, 1920–1970

Fred W. Gerwick was a native of Alden, New York. He was the son of Fred R. Gerwick and Elizabeth Porter. He graduated from Titusville, Pa. High School in 1920. He attended the University of Pittsburgh from 1920-1922. He married Louise O’Donnell of Lafayette, LA and had one daughter, Frances Ann Gerwick. He is buried in Lafayette, LA.

He went to southwest Texas and worked from 1932 to 1935 for the Magnolia Petroleum Company and later the Houston Oil Company performing geological production and scouting. He was also employed by the T. B. Slick Estate as production foreman. From 1936 until he retired in 1974 he was employed by one of the Layne Organizations. From 1964 to 1974 he was president of Layne and Bowler Service. He then worked for Benton Well Service until illness forced retirement in 1976.

Gerwick was a member of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering Society, Geological Society, the Lafayette Petroleum Club, and Grace Presbyterian Church.

This collection consists of photographs of the oil fields in Louisiana and Texas. There are also family photographs of the Gerwick family while in Titusville, Pennsylvania and the East. Few of the photographs are specifically identified.
