Abdalla’s Department Stores. Collection, 1967–1974
12 feet, 11 inches
Abdalla’s, a popular clothing store chain, was established by Edward Abdalla III and his wife Irma Belle Abdalla in 1933. The store had presences in Lafayette, Opelousas, and New Iberia. There were two locations in Lafayette: downtown and in the Oil Center. Edward “Brother” Abdalla IV and his wife Catherine Abdalla opened their own store, Brother’s on the Boulevard, in 1976, running for 43 years until its closing in 2019. Abdalla’s Oil Center location closed in 2005.
This collection contains scrapbooks of advertisements for Abdalla’s department stores. These advertisements largely come from Lafayette newspapers.
Bradley E. Black donated the collection.
