Guilbeau, Evelyn (1900–1977). Collection, 1917–1922, n.d.

1 foot, 7.5 inches; oversize

Evelyn Guilbeau was born April 12, 1900 in Carencro, LA at the parish line between St. Landry and Lafayette. She attended elementary and high school and Carencro, and eventually attended the Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette).

After graduating, Ms. Guilbeau became a teacher. She married George Guilbeau in Carencro and had one daughter, Shirley Rose Guilbeau. The family ended up moving to Arnaudville and she became a substitute teacher in St. Martin Parish.

This collection contains two scrapbooks that Ms. Guilbeau compiled during her time at SLII. The scrapbooks contain letters, clippings, written entries, stamps, and other miscellaneous items collected by Ms. Guilbeau. Separate from the scrapbooks, the collection also includes a speech she gave to high school students and a couple of photographs.

Nancy Oliver (her granddaughter) and James Guilbeau (her nephew) donated the collection.
