Celeste Mouton was the younger sister of Governor Alexandre Mouton. Her father, Jean Mouton père, donated land to her that was ultimately put under shared ownership with her husband, Joseph D. Guidry. Citing Sections 2390 & 2391 of the 1870 Louisiana Civil Code, she sued in the St. Landry Parish District Court to recover her paraphernal property for her to be the sole owner.

This collection contains a scanned copy and a transcription of the case file. The files are mostly in English, though there are also documents in French

Leslie Elizabeth Barras, great-granddaughter of Celeste Mouton, scanned, transcribed, and donated the collection.
