    [Note: This cannon ball was fired on August 1, 1798, during the naval battle of Aboukir Bay between the British Mediterranean fleet and the French squadron that had brought General Bonapart and his army to Egypt: Lord Nelson, commanding the British fleet surprised the anchored French fleet in Aboukir Bay and destroyed it almost to the last ship. By this one stroke England became mistress of the Mediterranean.]
