Janine A. Collins Collection

Collection 249

Collins, Janine A. ( – ). Collection, 1901, 2018

1 foot, 8 inches

Janine A. Collins is a native of New Orleans and lives in Lafayette, Louisiana. She studied art at Tulane University and became a portrait artist. In her thirty-five years as an artist, she has painted more than three hundred portraits that can be found in collections throughout the United States.

Collins works from either her own photography or archival photos of a subject. She also sometimes combines these sources to achieve a unique portrait as she did for the portrait of Edith Garland Dupré, which is housed in Dupré Library at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She also painted portraits of the University's presidents, which are also housed at Dupré Library.

This collection consists of 3 prints of her Miss Edith Garland Dupré portrait. Also included is a photocopy of a photograph of the first faculty that includes Miss Dupré.

The Communications Department at UL Lafayette and Ms. Janine A. Collins donated this collection.
