				Dudley J. LeBlanc Collection
				Collection 219 Dudley J. “Couzin Dud” LeBlanc (1894-1971). Collection, 1900 - 1995, n.d. 1 ft.
				Dudley J. “Couzin Dud” LeBlanc was born 16 August 1894 in Capitan Community near Youngsville, Louisiana. He was the son of Numa Dulze and Noemie LeBlanc. He attended school in Erath and Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute [now University of Louisiana at Lafayette]. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in World War I. He married Evelyn Hebert of Abbeville, Louisiana and they had six children. He died 22 October 1971 and is buried at St. Mary Magdalen Parish Cemetery in Abbeville. LeBlanc was an entrepreneur. He started an ironing business in college, which by graduation was a flourishing tailor shop. He later sold tobacco, shoes and patent medicine, and launched a very successful burial-insurance company and a headache-remedy company. He was famous for the distribution and promotion of HADACOL which was a vitamin/mineral supplement. He claimed it cured illnesses. He organized caravans including well-known entertainers promoting its sale. He was also a newscaster in both English and French on local radio stations starting in 1946. LeBlanc was also a politician. He was an elected member of the Louisiana House of Representatives in 1924. He was a member of the Louisiana Public Service Commission starting in 1926. He was elected and served as state senator, 1940-1944, 1948-1952, and 1964-1968. He authored two books: The True Story of the Acadians (1927), revised, 1932; and The Acadian Miracle (1966). He was also a member of the Catholic Church. He donated land on which St. Theresa Catholic Church of Abbeville now stands. He organized several pilgrimages to Acadia/Nova Scotia taking young women dressed as Evangeline to represent the various communities in Acadiana. This collection consists of genealogy material, photographs, clippings, correspondence, notes, and writings on LeBlanc.
				Folders 1-01 through 1-08 contain materials brought in by Whitney Broussard which were loaned to UAAMC for photocopying. The material in 1-09 on was purchased in 2001.
