Study Carrel Policy
Additional policies and procedures exist that might be applicable.
There are a limited number of study carrels at Dupré Library for use by UL Lafayette faculty and graduate students.Carrels are assigned on a first come first serve basis. They are open to current UL Lafayette faculty and graduate students only.

Those interested in requesting a carrel should contact Reference & Research Services at 482-6030,, or in person at the Reference desk. They will be assigned a carrel based on availability. If there are no carrels currently available they may be placed on a waiting list to be contacted when a carrel becomes available. There is an application and $5.00 deposit required to obtain a key to the carrel, this deposit will be returned when the key is turned in, only exact change or checks are accepted. Faculty must renew their carrel on a yearly basis, graduate students on a semester to semester basis. If the carrel occupant does not renew the carrel their deposit is forfeited and the carrel is reassigned. Exceptions to this policy are made by the library director only.

When a carrel is rented the occupant will receive the following list of rules. A failure to abide by these rules can result in confiscation of the carrel, forfeiture of the key deposit, and fines for damage to library property.
1. Locked study carrels at Dupré Library are rented to Faculty and Graduate Students.
2. Graduate students may reserve a carrel on semester to semester basis; faculty may reserve carrels on a yearly basis. The carrels may be renewed at the end of the reservation term. Each owner will receive a renewal form before the term expires. The renewal form must be returned by the renewal date to the Reference Desk (Dupré 158) or the owner will be charged for key replacement and the carrel will be reassigned.
3. A $5.00 key deposit is required and is refundable when the key is returned.
4. The carrels are not completely enclosed and are, therefore, not secure. The library is not responsible for items left in carrels. This includes library books.
5. Library books left in carrel must be checked out to the carrel's occupant. Library personnel will check carrels periodically and books left in carrels that are not checked out will be returned to the shelf.
6. Be courteous. Keep noise to a minimum. Always use headphones when listening to laptop, tape recorder, CD player, etc.
7. At the end of carrel reservation term, or if leaving the university, the carrel key must be returned to the library.
